All teacher’s books have been structured around requirements in The National Strategy for use at KS3 and The National Literacy Strategy for use at KS2. Charts at the beginning of each book show which aspects of the Strategies have been covered and how each worksheet reflects Strategy requirements.

Each of the teacher’s books contains main sections on:

Background: each play’s cultural and historical setting

Character: a study of each play’s main characters

Language: an exploration of Shakespeare’s language and how it has evolved

Structure: an analysis of how the parts of each play relate to its whole

On stage: opportunities to explore Shakespeare in performance

Other sections include: Setting, Key words, Themes, Imagery, Comprehension, Reviews and Follow up activities.

Worksheet activities are placed in three general categories: Talking points, In Performance and On paper or computer.

Talking points: offer discussion based topics designed to encourage confident speaking and careful listening skills.

In performance: activities provide students with opportunities to experience Shakespeare as drama, through role-play, dance and mime and set piece scenes and speeches.

On paper and computer: offers a full range of writing based activities from writing letters, diary entries and newspaper articles and designing posters to producing finished critical essays.
