Teacher’s books

Teacher’s Books complement each of the Shakespeare Comic Book texts. They provide a wide range of activities and cover all aspects of Shakespeare study, including character, language, structure, themes, imagery and the plays’ historical background. Each book contains over 50 photocopiable worksheets.

A4 format, 53-59 pages, fully photocopiable

‘Invaluable… these texts are far more accessible than other texts on the market and at this price, they will not break the budget.’
Alison Smith, review, Ink Pellet Magazine

‘Shakespeare can be daunting to convey to children, but this gives so many good ideas I’m sure it will become a “must have” document. This is a deep, thought provoking book which conveys difficult concepts in language that children can understand… Excellent.’
Christine Corfield, teacher, Shropshire

All Teacher’s Books have been structured around the English curriculum. To see which areas have been covered in Teaching Shakespeare for Years 6, 7, 8 and 9, please click the relevant tab:

Each of the Teacher’s Books contains main sections on:

Background: each play’s cultural and historical setting
Character: a study of each play’s main characters
Language: an exploration of Shakespeare’s language and how it has evolved
Structure: an analysis of how the parts of each play relate to its whole
On stage: opportunities to explore Shakespeare in performance

Other sections include: Setting, Key words, Themes, Imagery, Comprehension, Reviews and Follow up activities.

Worksheet activities are placed in three general categories: Talking points, In Performance and On paper or computer.

Talking points: offer discussion based topics designed to encourage confident speaking and careful listening skills.

In performance: activities provide students with opportunities to experience Shakespeare as drama, through role-play, dance and mime and set piece scenes and speeches.

On paper and computer: offers a full range of written activities from writing letters, diary entries, newspaper articles and designing posters to producing finished critical essays.

Please note: due to the adult themes in many of Shakespeare’s plays, a very few of the worksheets may not be considered appropriate for some students. It is suggested that all material be assessed for suitability before photocopying and distribution.

Teaching Shakespeare, Teacher’s Books: £22 each + £3.50 p&p.
